Mardi Gras is a much-loved tradition for children across France. For this special day, uniforms disappeared and costumes took over our French Bilingual Primary school. From royal princesses to hungry crocodiles, superheroes and magical characters, our students brought colour, imagination and excitement into every corner of the school.

From the moment they arrived in the morning, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and anticipation. Classrooms became little carnival worlds where creativity and joy were celebrated together.

 

Discovering the True Spirit of Mardi Gras

Beyond the costumes and festivities, Mardi Gras was also an opportunity for our students to experience an authentic French culinary tradition. They gathered butter, sugar and eggs to make delicious golden pancakes.

The smell of freshly made pancakes quickly filled the school, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Sharing this special treat together allowed students to discover an important cultural tradition, celebrated across France for generations, in a fun and memorable way.

 

A Joyful Moment Shared by the Whole School Community

Throughout the day, laughter echoed through every classroom and corridor. Teachers, students and staff all joined in the celebration, making the event even more meaningful and memorable.

Mardi Gras is much more than a costume day: it is a celebration of togetherness, imagination and community spirit. For a few hours, everyone could step into a different role, enjoy a little mystery and simply have fun together.

Special moments like these are an important part of life at Ermitage. Alongside academic learning,they create a warm, caring environment where students can learn about traditions, express themselves creatively and build joyful memories together.

This year’s Mardi Gras celebration left us with plenty of smiles, colourful memories and, of course, a few extra pancakes enjoyed along the way.
