How do historians classify the many witnesses to the past? This is what the CM1 pupils at Ermitage discovered just before the school holidays.

We invited them to dive into the heart of history during an immersive visit to the museum. They were able to touch and handle fascinating objects, spin a wheel, grind coffee and even discover how a shell from the First World War was transformed into a vase. The tour introduced them to the four resources used by historians: archaeological, oral, written and iconographic.

At Ermitage, we believe that learning through direct experience is essential and helps to lay the foundations of solid knowledge for our pupils' future, and here is a great example!
