Model United Nations (MUN) is a club which teaches students on current geopolitics. They learn how to debate following UN professional rules and procedures to become a better and confident public speakers.

During their weekly meetings, students represent various countries and debate resolutions written by delegates on current geopolitical issues affecting those nations. Participants learn about the complex relationships between countries, including shared interests with allies, economic ties and sanctions, as well as historic tensions dating back centuries.

These meetings, along with the knowledge gained, come to fruition during conferences attended by the students. Every year, they send a delegation of students to various conferences in France and worldwide.

ERmun debates during the meetings

Last year, they organised ERMUN 2023 gathering over 100 students from the Yvelines department. They also attended Haarlem MUN in April 2024, an international conference with students coming from 20 different countries. These events provide students with a deeper understanding of global issues and politics, while allowing them to meet new people and discover other cultures. Some of them shared their experience and feedback with us:

“I first joined MUN in 3ème, when Mr Hager, head of MUN, encouraged me to try a session. I was afraid to speak, impressed by others, shaking while reading my speech. In reality, MUN makes you realize that it is by struggling that you improve, it is through dozens of failed speeches, of stumbling over words that you gain experience, that you improve, and that realisation comes when one day, you enter a room, and feel confident. You feel confident about your speaking capacities, and more importantly, you are confident because you are not afraid of failure. For me, MUN is much more important than what it seems : it makes you discover another world, making you gain invisible yet invaluable skills: critical thinking, diplomacy, cultural awareness and many more. MUN is a lot more than a meeting every Wednesday, it is also a team effort. Every year, we organise our own conference gathering over 100 students, from all over the Yvelines. In these conferences, we meet other students, from different schools, countries and even continents. Ultimately, MUN is about solving problems, and realising the complexity of our world.”

“I really like MUN because I learn so much about how the world works and all the dynamics going on. I also find the debate system of the UN very interesting and prepares you well if you do diplomacy later on.” — Pablo.

“I have now been doing Model UN for around 2 years, and enjoyed every second of it. MUN has taught me a lot.” — Laetitia.
