Ermitage hosted a Young Round Square Conference last spring, welcoming 50 students aged 13 and under from ten different RS schools from the European region for a memorable conference titled “To Infinity and Beyond.”
Fifteen Ermitage students from the RS student committee at the Middle School put their leadership and organizational skills to the test as they helped prepare and lead the four-day conference. Two keynote speakers inspired students to embrace their future and believe in their dreams. Astronaut Jean-François Clervoy, of the European Space Agency, told students about his personal journey to the stars, encouraging students to work hard to accomplish their goals. The other keynote speaker, Mr. Ian Wilder is a father of three Ermitage students who told the audience about a year-long round-the-world trip he did with his wife and children. He spoke about their adventures on the road, what they did to stay focused, and how it’s possible to do things even when others tell you it’s not. After each speaker, students joined for barazzas where they had a chance to discuss their impressions and feelings.
In addition, students visited Paris and participated in a thrilling scavenger hunt at the Versailles Palace, and had a taste of adventure when they went rock-climbing in the Fontainebleau forest. Students celebrated the end of the conference with a dance, where they were able to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
