Through our longstanding partnerships with schools around the globe, most of them members of Round Square, Ermitage students can choose from a wide range of group or individual exchanges. Similarly, new faces are always joining us from abroad, sharing their home culture with our students, while developing their understanding of French language and culture.
Lower School - Coménius Project
Grade 5 (CM2) students participate in an international learning exchange, "The World from my Window," in partnership with the Westfield School, Newcastle upon Tyne in England and Armin-Mainwald-Schule in Monheim am Rhein in Germany. This exchange provides an opportunity for Ermitage students to interact with children from two different countries, learning about their cultures and traditions. In encouraging them to build such bonds and discovering the world around them at an early age, Ermitage hopes to create future leaders and interest them in participating in future exchanges throughout their academic career at Ermitage.
Middle School - USA Exchange
Middle School students are invited to participate in a 3-week exchange taking place in New York and Massachusetts, USA. The goal of this trip is for Ermitage students to experience family life and the school system in the US. Students will live with host families in Amherst, Massachusetts, attend classes at Bement High School and learn about the rich history that the area has to offer. The trip also includes a visit to Manhattan, where students will enjoy exploring the "Big Apple," with stops at the main sites and museums. From Broadway to 5th Avenue, the students will get a chance to discover the best of the ‘City that Never Sleeps’. After their return, Ermitage students will switch roles with their hosts and will welcome Bement students to France to share Paris, ‘The City of Lights’ with them.
Upper School - India Exchange
As part of the ICU2 India Project, Ermitage Upper School students are hosted by families of the Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai where they attend classes and experience typical India day to day life. This enriching cultural experience is coupled with the intense ICU2 service week, balancing the experience of visiting the underprivileged villages for ICU2 with the ever growing wealth of Mumbai. After their return, Ermitage students welcome their Indian counterparts to France and help them discover the best that France has to offer.
Students are eligible for individual exchanges beginning in Grade 6 (6ème) and they range from two to eight weeks, depending on age. These exchanges are highly encouraged for students who want to learn about the world around them while being immersed in a culture and language different from their own. Student exchanges are feasible with schools that participate in the Round Square network. Please visit our RS Reporters Blog for news and feedback from past exchanges.
