On Friday 5th September, the Middle School had the beginning of year Grand Placitum. As a fitting tribute to the year 2014, we marked the 70 year anniversary of the Normandy landings by inviting veteran Noreen Riols to speak to the students about her wartime job during the Second World War as an undercover operations agent training foreign agents in the art of sabotage in England. Her very real experiences and flair for speaking engaged the students throughout and they were extremely keen to ask her several pertinent questions in the Q&A afterwards.
We were also very fortunate to welcome JJ Kent, a Native American from the Lakota tribe and extremely talented flutist, to the afternoon proceedings. The students were mesmerized by his music and eager to hear more about his life and his traditional stories. JJ Kent is renowned as being an inspiring cultural educator and the students would certainly agree with this!
