Our Philosophy
Success takes hard work. Our Lycée students certainly work hard to prepare the baccalaureate exam, but also to achieve ambitious post-secondary goals. Ermitage Lycée programs provide the conditions necessary for this educational success, giving students room to become active participants in their own lives and in society.
Our Lycée is a place for each adolescent to learn and grow into a confident, self-aware citizen. We offer students respect, encouragement and support, and ask the same of them and their families in return.
At Ermitage, this emphasis on communication and open exchange is the key to moving forward together and achieving progress.
Our Objectives
- Make it easier for Collège students to adapt to 2nde (Grade 10) by integrating 3ème (Grade 9) into the Lycée
- Clarify the goals of Lycée and the assessment criteria
- Optimize student knowledge by teaching them to apply their skills
- Give each student the opportunity for self-evaluation
- Reinforce student independence through teacher meetings and quarterly conseils de classe (class councils)
- Follow student progress step by step using Ecole Directe, a website where parents can view their child's education in real time
- Develop curiosity and adaptability in each student by emphasizing the study of foreign languages
- Reduce the pressure students feel as exams approach by helping them prepare ahead of time through practice and training
- Give all of our students access to top schools in the US, Canada and the UK by offering a varied selection of foreign languages and the International Option Baccalaureate

3ème - Grade 9
To better prepare our 9th graders for their brevet exam and entry into their 2nde/10th grade year Ermitage chose to include them in the lycée. Most French schools consider 3ème to be part of Collège or middle school. Our system allows young Lycée students to begin preparing for their baccalaureate without feeling weighed down by the transition that typically occurs in 2nde.
2nde - Grade 10
In 2019, the curriculum for 10th grade was changed following the reform of secondary education in France. This class now offers more options and focuses on reinforcing the academic pillars. Ermitage has fully integrated the importance of these changes. We organize our 2nde classes to encourage an in-depth study of the main subjects in view of students selecting their areas of specialization at the end of the year.

At Ermitage, our International Option Baccalaureate (OIB) for students with an advanced level in English offers the specific options of the traditional 1ère curriculum with more hours of instruction in English. See the OIB section below for more information.

We know how important the Terminale year is for students. The curriculum is demanding and students are also honing the study skills they will need upon entering university. We offer specific preparatory training to help students face these challenges:
- One teacher is assigned to each class of Terminale, closely monitoring and checking in with students throughout the year.
- Each class has 2 hours of tutorial (TD) built into their schedule for each of the main subjects. These sessions aim to reinforce skills in view of the upcoming oral and written sections of the baccalaureate exam.
- Four series of practice tests are organized to help students prepare for the exam, one before each school break.

French International Option Baccalaureate (OIB)
French International Option Baccalaureate (OIB)
With 1300 students of nearly 70 different nationalities, Ermitage welcomes families with different needs and different expectations. That's why we offer programs that can be adapted to each student's specific profile.
For international families or French families with global ambitions, we wanted to offer a curriculum that would open the doors of universities in the UK and North America, as well as the best schools in France and Europe.
Who can access the OIB?
Students coming from Ermitage's bilingual programs or who demonstrate a sufficient mastery of English can enter the International Option Baccalaureate program. This option includes a specific curriculum over two years (Grades 11-12), in the subjects of English and history-geography. It is primarily intended for truly bilingual students who will be capable of following an advanced level of instruction in both languages.
The classes in these two subjects are based on the curriculum from the American section of the French International Option Baccalaureate. Ermitage teachers are in charge of instruction, but classes are part of a separate program that is not under contract with the National Ministry of Education. The international option of the French baccalaureate is not related to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP). It is a general French baccalaureate with specific classes in English.
The OIB in Application
The oral and written English exams of the French International Option Baccalaureate cover an English and American literature curriculum. The OIB also offers history and geography classes in English. This option can be selected as early as middle school and requires the student to be bilingual.
- In 2nde (Grade 10): 4 hours/week of English literature and 3 hours/week of history class in English
- In 1ère and Terminale (Grades 11-12): 4 hours/week of history-geography in English and 4 hours/week of literature based on an English-American curriculum.
