Academic Overview

Lower School

Building your foundation

A bilingual education being one of the cornerstones of Ermitage, the Lower School teaches all students in French and in English. Classes are organized in ways to accommodate every child's linguistic abilities. Although based on the French National Curriculum, classes remain flexible and as such are thus able to provide a variety of cultural and educational experiences.

Middle School

Finding your voice

The Middle School years are crucial to the building of personalities and consolidating the building blocks of a child's education.  Many opportunities are offered as students learn to test out and express their opinions and ideas through a variety of classes and leadership programs, known as "Discovery and Ideas," "Passport" and "Placitum."  Students are placed in one of three tiers where the principle criteria is language fluency. The aim is to ensure that students foster their fluency in English, high academic achievement and a lifelong love for learning.

Please note that the International Studies Program has expanded to offer instruction entirely in English as of Foundation 1 / Grade 6 / 6ème.

Upper School

Engaging in your future

Students entering our Upper School section are oriented toward two diploma options.  Our goal is to ensure that each student is focused on his or her abilities and where each can produce top-level results.

→ Our International Studies Program, including the IB Diploma Program, offers instruction entirely in English. Across the 7-year program, students are benefiting from student-centered learning, engaging in classroom discussions in a round-table format and practicing the material alongside their instructors. This facilitates a close community of reflective, open-minded learners.

→ In addition to the Bac L, ES, S, the Baccalauréat français (OIB) offers our bilingual students the opportunity  of demonstrating their high level of both French and English.  The OIB at Ermitage follows the American Section curriculum where History and English/American Literature classes are held entirely in English.
