Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are their application deadlines to be aware of?  Applications are welcome throughout the year and are reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received.  Children currently enrolled in the school are given priority for their re-enrollment, which generally takes place in February and March.
  • What is the standard class size?  In general, the average class size is 25 students per class.  However, the international programs class sizes have 10 to 15 students per class.
  • What are the standard school hours?  Hours vary according to the age of the students and activities a student may participate in.  In general, the Lower School starts at 8:45am and finishes at 4:30pm (although before and after school care is offered).  The Middle and Upper Schools begin as early as 8:20 and can finish at 5:10pm, depending on additional classes, or extra-curricular activities offered.
  • What is the bilingual program all about?  Bilingualism is at the heart of an education at Ermitage.  Students are encouraged at every level to become fluent in both French and English.
  • At what age is English introduced into the classroom?  Ermitage welcomes its youngest learners at the age of 2 1/2.
  • What options are offered with the French Baccalaureate?  Ermitage offers 3 sections of the French Baccalaureate - Literature (L), Economics & Sciences (ES) and Science (S).  In addition, strong bilingual students may decide to add on the "international option" which tests abilities in History, Geography and Literature in English.
  • What are the options for pursuing a diploma entirely in English?  Recently, Ermitage was authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program entirely in English.
